Thank you very much for your interest in LobsterTunes.  Below, you should find all the steps that you will need to follow in order to get started.  If you should run into any problems during the installation or simply have a question, please do not hesitate to e-mail us at lobstertunes@electricpocket.com.  We will be glad to work with you to get you up and running...

You can also look to http://lobstertunes.com for information, forums, etc.

We sincerely hope you enjoy the LobsterTunes music player, and look forward to hearing from you.

REQUIREMENTS
In order to use LobsterTunes, you will need the following:

  • Windows desktop computer running either Windows XP (SP2) or Windows Vista
  • Windows Mobile 5.0 device (please note that Windows Smartphone edition is not currently supported)
  • Media server application (like Orb or Windows Media Player) and some DRM-free MP3, WMA or WAV files

DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING
To get started, you will need to download and run our desktop installer.

1) to download, click this link (or copy-and-paste the URL into a browser): http://lobstertunes.com
2) click on the link to go to the 'Download' page
3) click on the link to 'Download Installer for XP & Vista' and [Save] the file to your computer
4) once the download is complete, double-click the 'LobsterTunes.exe' file to launch the installer

The first part of the installer will check to make sure that you have the necessary prerequisite software from Microsoft on your desktop.  If you do not have the necessary software, the Lobster installer will help download the applications from the official Microsoft website and install them.

The second part of the installer will configure the LobsterTunes service on your desktop and install the application on your mobile device.  Simply follow the on-screen directions and connect your mobile device when prompted.

One of the last steps once everything is installed is an automated check to ensure that you have an appropriate media server application (like Windows Media Player) installed on your desktop -- and to check to make sure that it is properly configured to work with our application.  If you are running Windows Media Player 11 on your XP or Vista desktop, it will step you through the process of configuring your Windows settings to make sure that everything is set.

Once these are completed, you should be ready to go!

USING THE LOBSTERTUNES APPLICATION
The LobsterTunes player allows you to connect your mobile device to your desktop computer and access your entire music collection wherever you are.  Once everything is installed, you simply need to enable your data connection and launch the LobsterTunes application from the Programs list on your mobile device (Start button --> Programs -->  Lobster).  We currently support WiFi data connections, as well as the data connection that you get through your GSM or CDMA provider.  But please note that the LobsterTunes service does use a lot of data, so we strongly recommend using a WiFi connection if your cell phone service agreement does not include an unlimited data plan.

If everything is working properly, you should be able to go to the 'My Music' tab on the LobsterTunes application and view your computer's music files.  From this, you will be able to select music to add to your playlist.

When you press 'Play', the first track will be downloaded and cached into memory.  Then the application will go ahead and start downloading the next track in the playlist.  You will see the progress of the downloads in the Playlist tab.  Songs that have been fully downloaded and are cached on your device will have a green 'check' mark next to them.
